Frequently Asked Questions
Question 1: Will we have the option to choose our publishing platform?
Answer: Yes, you may select a platform as long as it is open or has the capacity to be open. Ancillary materials will be published on Open Massachusetts: A Public Higher Education Repository. The Publishing Support Team will assist grantees to publish, no need to have prior experience.Question 2: What is the maximum percentage of content we can use from Open Educational Resources (OER) while still claiming it as our original work, provided we credit the original authors?
Answer: There is no established percentage of original content required for adapting existing OER. It is essential to credit the original authors, and you are expected to create original material alongside any adaptations.Question 3: If I have been using OER in my course, should I include a hypothetical cost-saving figure?
Answer: Some OER materials may have associated costs; if they do not, please indicate zero.Question 4: Is attendance at the Summer Blitz mandatory? Can we apply if we know we will be unable to attend for academic reasons?
Answer: Attendance at the Summer Blitz is mandatory; however, this is a two-year project. If you cannot attend this year, we encourage you to apply for next year. If your teaching schedule only conflicts minimally, we may be able to accommodate you, so please apply and communicate your availability.Question 5: Can part-time or adjunct faculty who teach a specific course annually, but may not during the academic year 2026-2027, apply?
Answer: Yes, you are welcome to submit an application. If selected, we will require a letter of commitment from your dean or department chair confirming that you will have the opportunity to teach that course in the upcoming academic year.Question 6: Is it permissible to apply for this grant to develop OER materials initially for core major courses, with the intention of using them later in high enrollment courses?
Answer: Yes, please submit an application. While priority is given to high enrollment courses, we did support lower enrollment courses in the first round. Please describe your intended approach in your application.Question 7: May I attend the Summer Blitz even if I am not an approved applicant?
Answer: Attendance is not permitted at this time, but please inform us of your interest, and we will notify you if there are any changes.Question 8: Will the original materials developed through the grant be accessible for others to adopt or adapt?
Answer: Yes, all materials will be made available under a Creative Commons license.OER and AI Toolkit
